With the winter months approaching and the forecasts of snow its time to start considering cold weather tyres.

Cold weather tyres are more effective in weather conditions that are lower than 7ºc because they are made from a higher percentage of natural rubber and silica which doesn't harden as much as normal tyres. This allows for better handling and braking performance during the winter months.

Cold weather tyres are designed for all winter conditions including dry cold weather, rain, slush, ice and snow and the specific tread pattern is designed to adhere to dangerous wet, snowy and icy surfaces.

Having cold winter tyres on a vehicle during the winter months dramatically improves braking distances and so increases safety. For instance in cold wet conditions having winter tyres can reduce the stopping distance by 4.8 meters, in snowy conditions by 8 meters and in icy conditions, 11 meters.
